LED has the advantages of energy conservation and environmental protection, and has become the main trend in the development of the lamp industry. As the technology and product properties used by LED are quite different from those of traditional lamps, the current general safety standards and specifications for lamps are obviously not applicable. In order to help the industry face up to this issue, this issue will describe the technology used by LED lamps, the scope of possible applications, and the safety assessment currently used by UL.
LED lamp technology and characteristics The so-called LED lamp, as its name implies, refers to the light source for the lamp products to use LED (light emitting diode) technology as the main). LED is a solid state semiconductor component, which uses the current to flow forward to the semiconductor p-n junction coupling, and then combines the two carriers separated from the semiconductor, the negatively charged electron and the positively charged electric hole, to generate photon emission. Different kinds of LED can emit light of different wavelengths from the infrared line to the blue light, and from the purple light to the ultraviolet light. In recent years, the new development is to paint phosphor on the blue LED and convert the blue LED into white LED products. This operation generally requires a driver circuit or a power supply. The main function of the driver circuit or power supply is to convert the AC voltage to the DC power supply, and complete the voltage and current corresponding to the LED at the same time to drive the matching components.
The LED lamp bulb is small in size, light in weight, and encapsulated in epoxy resin. It can withstand high strength mechanical shock and vibration, is not easy to break, and has a long brightness decay cycle. Therefore, its service life can be as long as 50000-100000 hours, far exceeding 1000 hours of traditional tungsten filament bulbs and 10000 hours of fluorescent tubes. As the service life of LED lamps can reach 5~10 years, not only can the replacement cost of lamps be greatly reduced, but also because it has the characteristic that light can be driven by a very small current. Under the same lighting effect, the power consumption is only half of that of fluorescent tubes. Therefore, LED also has the advantages of power saving and energy conservation. However, because some technologies of LED are still insufficient, the disadvantages initially used in lamps include poor light quality (color rendering, consistency, color temperature), difficult heat dissipation, and high price. Improper heat dissipation will lead to the accelerated degradation of the brightness of LED lamps and the service life of circuit components. With the rapid development of manufacturing technology in the past decade, the above shortcomings, including the thermal resistance of LED is gradually reduced, and the light quality is also improving. In 2008, except that the luminous efficiency of LED white and cold light has reached 10OLmW, the luminous efficiency of LED warm white light is expected to increase from 7OLmW to 100LmW in 2010. Compared with other current general light sources, the luminous efficiency of LED is obviously getting better with tungsten filament bulb of about 15LmW, fluorescent fluorescent lamp of about 45~6OLmW and HID lamp of about 120~150LmW.
